Curriculum: First-year students begin interacting with patients in their first month through the Practice of Medicine course, in which they learn basic clinical skills. They are also required to take four elective courses outside of the core curriculum in the basic sciences, humanities, and clinical medicine.

Clinical Training: Third year students complete core 1-month to 3-month clerkships  at Washington University Medical Center, which includes Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The fourth year is entirely elective, and students can choose to explore fields in clinical medicine or biomedical research.

Student Support: Throughout medical school, students regularly meet with a small advising group comprised of a faculty advisor and three students from each of the other classes. Third-year students select a career faculty advisor who specializes in the field the student intends to pursue. Career faculty advisors ensure that their students select a fourth year schedule that reflects their educational needs and career goals.
