The next year i will apply for pre-med and im not clear on some points regarding the pre-med program!
So if i choose biology and not chemistry for example what are the differences ?

You can choose English or Psych, it does not have to be science.

The point is to choose what you do well in so your GPA is the highest possible.

BTW there is no "Premed" as a major. Pre med is the goal, doing the
1 yr of each bio, chem, ochem and physics so you can apply to medical school.

Hi!
i'm about to start my fourth semester of my undergrad degree. I'm majoring in psychology...as i originally wanted to just counsel, and therefore become a psychologist. Recently, though, i think i'd really like to pursue a medical degree to become a psychiatrist.

I have basically no idea about the first thing about med school and it's admissions likes/dislikes and such.

Should i continue with my psych degree and just take the required 4 courses of "pre-med" classes?
Or should i just major in Bio?
is double-majoring even better?
and which would be more benefitial to taking the mCats?
what the heck is a mcat? do you take it while still pursuing your undergrad? i know there are deadlines...

does it really matter to med schools (admissions wise) where you get your undergrad?
basically i just need good mcat scores, a good gpa, and good grades in my pre-med classes to get into med school?

and my apologies to whoever is brave enough to reply to this. i know it's a lot of questions:)

@ Sami:

I am a psyc major, too, and I talked to a few counselors, they've told me to pursue a B.S. in psychology rather than a B.A. .. also, they've recommended a B.S. in psychobiology (which is gonna be what i'll be majoring in). That way it just is easier to get your prereqs done.
I've also been told that it actually is better to major in something other than Bio.. because most of the applicants for Med School are bio majors.

The only problem I personally have at the moment is the lack of offered classes due to the budget cuts. I have problems getting into the science classes I need in order to finish all the science sequences.. :( I currently am at CC and it is gonna take me more than 3 years to transfer because there are very few science classes offered at the moment. it's horrible.
