Medical School Finder methodology and use

What does the Medical School Finder Do?

The Medical School Finder compares your grades and MCAT scores to the average scores for students accepted by each medical school in our database. Using an algorythm that takes into consideration your grades and MCAT scores, your primary state of residence, the average accepted GPA and MCAT scores for medical schools, and their in- to out-of-state acceptance ratio, the program produces a score of how competitive your application would be at a given school. Negative scores are “less competitive” than the average student accepted, positive scores are “more competitive” than the average accepted medical student.mcat

Medical School Result Format

The results are color coded:

Very Competitive: schools at which your GPA and MCAT scores are “very competitive” are colored green.

Competitive: schools at which your GPA and MCAT scores are “competitive” are colored blue.

Less Competitive: schools at which your GPA and MCAT scores are “less competitive” are colored red.

Clicking on the “Get Specifics” button below the name of the school will give you a detailed breakdown of how your score was generated from your information and the information of the specific school.

The calculated score is listed after the school name. Schools are displayed from the lowest score (where your numbers are least competitive) to the highest score (where your numbers are most competitive).

Disclaimer

The Medical School Finder is designed only as a tool to help you learn more about medical schools you might be interested in applying to. It cannot and does not gaurantee acceptance or rejection by any school.

There are several limitations to the Medical School Finder. Some of these limitations include:

Not all US medical schools, and certainly not all medical schools that accept US students, are included in the medical school database.

Scores have no relavence to international or foreign applicants to US medical schools, since residency requirements are very different for non-residents and non-citizens.

While the algorythm is based on reasonable assumptions and historical data, it cannot predict future trends in medical school acceptances. The scores cannot be verified objectively.

Medical school acceptances are based on many factors in addition to (and sometimes in spite of) GPA, MCAT scores and primary residence. This algorythm does not take any of these factors into account.

We hope the Medical School Finder is a useful tool in organizing your approach to applying to medical school
