SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center at St. Louis University

Location: St. Louis, Missouri

Highlights: This program allows residents to customize their training with 6 months of an individualized curriculum during their third year. Through the Community Advocacy through Residency Education (CARE) program, residents can contribute to their community through legislative efforts, community outreach and education, and family and community resources.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital & Maricopa Medical Center

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Highlights: Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Maricopa Medical Center attract patients from all over Arizona and represent all areas of general and subspecialty pediatrics. Residents in this program will gain experience in both a children’s hospital and a large public medical center and work with diverse Native American and Hispanic patient populations.

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Highlights: Residents have the opportunity to work with the palliative care program, which serves 180 patients and receives 3-4 new consults every week. All residents also contribute to a scholarly project comprised of basic or clinical research, case reports, or medical education and curriculum development. The program also offers individualized training pathways in hospitalist medicine, subspecialty pediatrics, critical care, and primary care, allowing residents to tailor their training to their career goals.

Arkansas Children’s Hospital at the University of Arkansas

Location: Little Rock, Arkansas

Highlights: Arkansas Children’s Hospital is the only children’s hospital in the state and home to Arkansas’ only Level 4 NICU. Residents have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient pool from both rural and urban areas. Nationwide Children’s Hospital at Ohio State University

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Highlights: Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s five largest children’s hospitals and ten largest pediatric research facilities. Residents are exposed to a wide range of pediatric career tracks and subspecialties early in the program, and have the option of joining special interest groups in Academic Medicine, Community Pediatrics, Public Health, and International Medicine. This program also offers opportunities for residents to teach elementary-school students about health and science through the Residents in Schools Initiative (RISI).
