Do most DO take COMLEX or USMLE?? What is the pro and con for each?
If D.O. would like to take USMLE, will the DO curriculum sufficient enough or they have to get supplementary eduction?

DOs are required to take the COMLEX and MDs are required to take the USMLE. Some DOs take the USMLE if they are planning on taking allopathic residencies. This is not necessary though, as many allopathic residencies will accept the COMLEX. You must check with the individual program to be sure that they don't require the USMLE. DOs have sufficient training to take the USMLE and tend to score in the same range as MDs.

My friend at Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (or MUCCOM. DO schools sure have crazy names...) has told me that if he wants to take the USMLE he would have to prep for that test in addition to prepping for the COMLEX.

THis may not be true of all DO schools, but you can take the USMLE but are still required to sit for the COMLEX. However, the degree doesn't change if you take the USMLE.
