I'm doing a Surgery Clerkship MD program, the new Chief is a 5th year DO and one of the Attendings is a DO, no matter what premeds throw around in the real world things are different then you would think.
MD and DO are 100% equals
I'm not trying to argue DO's are inferior doctors, but they are perceived so by many people. Go into DO forums at other places and you'll see always a story here and there about "discouraging" MD's. Not too long ago I read one about an MD saying that DO's went to fake medical school. Another one said he saw the DO feeling like an outsider to other residents. The stigma is there. Just because a DO can become successful and there are people out there that don't discriminate them, it doesn't mean the discrimination has disappeared completely. I also don't like how DO's try to actively portray themselves as "better" because of the "whole patient" thing, while still expecting to be treated equally and get into MD programs.
