PHILADELPHIA, March 21, 2011 – The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), the testing organization that provides the pathway to licensure for osteopathic physicians in United States, is pleased to announce Gerald G. Osborn, DO, MPhil, has been named to the newly created position of Senior Vice President for Cognitive Testing. Dr. Osborn will be responsible for leading NBOME’s cognitive testing department and for oversight of NBOME’s cognitive examinations, including those in the COMLEX-USA licensure series (Level 1, Level 2-Cognitive Evaluation, Level 3). Dr. Osborn will join the NBOME in mid July and be based in the organization’s Chicago Corporate Offices.

Currently, Dr. Osborn serves as the Associate Dean for International Medicine, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, and Director of Behavioral Neurosciences at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU)-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. Prior to his tenure at LMU, Dr. Osborn had served as Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, his alma mater. He had formerly served as Professor of Psychiatry at Michigan State University (MSU) College of Osteopathic Medicine and College of Human Medicine, having completed residency training at MSU in Psychiatry and the subspecialization of Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry. At MSU, Dr. Osborn served in numerous roles over his 26-year-tenure, including Chief Resident in Psychiatry, Residency Program Director, Interim Chair of Psychiatry, and Associate Dean. He was named Emeritus Professor in 2001.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Dr. Osborn’s experience and passion in this important leadership role at the NBOME, particularly at a time when we are developing so many new and exciting assessment tools,” said John R. Gimpel, DO, MEd, NBOME President & Chief Executive Officer. “Dr. Osborn will be working with the Department of Cognitive Testing, our extraordinary NBOME National Faculty, and across the organization to help the NBOME realize our vision of becoming the testing organization for the entire osteopathic profession.”

Dr. Gerald Osborn to Join NBOME in Senior Leadership Role

Dr. Osborn rejoins in a professional capacity an organization with which he previously had a long relationship on a volunteer basis.
