Here's the order what how ADCOM see your application IMO:

GPA > MCAT > ECs > Research > LOR

This is understandable because GPA takes a lot of sacrifices and dedication to obtain, MCAT also requires many hours of hard work and accrued knowledge over time. ECs shows your interest in involvement through patient contact. Research shows your interest in reaching higher goals. And LORs are approvals of your works.

So by becoming an EMT, you are strengthening your ECs (extra-curricular) area while undermining the MCAT, which is a much more heavily looked upon area.

I hope that my hierarchy of importance could help you to efficiently improve you chance for med school.
