Lower than average overall gpa

I am an undergraduate currently with a psychology major. I have just recently decided to go to medical school. Unfortunately I had a few bad starting semesters as I wasn't in the college mindset just yet haha. Will my gpa be a big factor if it's on the low end of the scale or do med schools look more at the MCATs and your science gpa?

Welcome

What low end?

You need 3.5 for MD schools and 3.4 for DO schools to be competitive.

Low end is MD 3.4 and DO 3.2.

So what is low end for you?

IMHO from what I have seen, High MCAT will not help, it is seen as an equal to the GPA.
From AMCAS:AMCAS GPAs are almost always different from those calculated by the schools you have attended. Therefore, AMCAS does not in any way attempt to compare our calculations with those appearing on your official transcripts.

Currently I have a 3.2 but I have a few semesters left to raise it up more.

I noticed in another post you spoke of postbaccalaureatte programs. If I graduated with a degree and then did one of those programs would that increase my chances of being accepted to a school?

Yes. It'll boost your gpa.
