I Simply Cannot Wait Until Monday...pls ANSWER

Postby sarakh1 » Sat Oct 31, 2009 3:21 am

I have an appointment with my adviser Monday. However, I'm going crazy. (Burned out, bad MT in Bio class)
Here are some general, ok detailed info, on me.
Major: Bio Sci Minor: Psc
Accumulative GPA: 3.7
Science GPA: 3.65
MCAT: 31R V:8 PS:12 BS:11

Activities:
Research Assistant at Neuro Lab, co-author in 1 and possibly 2 by the end of this year. More importantly, interactions with patients, set up and run the experiments for the patient, designed my own programs and analzyed the data
Clinical and Research Assistant in the ED: Enroll various patients, shadow doctors and attendings, excellent, or rather horrible, observation of what occurs in the recess room
6 Months Volunteer at CHILD LIFE: Touching but there was no room for growth.
Volunteer at Red Cross and Co-Instructor for Classes offered (only taught 2 classes though)
Officer for Prytanean Women Honer Society: Nothing major like President but bc of my technology experience, I run the site, am in charge of listserves, applications, as well as interact and mantain and help the running of contact with the Alumni board. Anything with technology, I am a major part of!
Editor and Member of a Newsletter(1 year) and member 3 years: I stopped this year because I believe in doing activities that keep holding meaning, and this, no longer was.
Sunday School Instructor (1year): I taught a class of 40, the youngest kids

So far, 4 letter of recs (2 by docs-the ED (the lady likes me, I hope, unless I don't know social cues) and the research lab PI who is both a PhD and MD and really knows me well, 1 from a writing professor, 1npb professor who I had for the toughest class . STRONG personal statement, voted best in our writing class by students and professor alike.

Goals: Really get my cumultive to be a 3.75 atleast. Take more sciences to show that I am trying to improve the damn 3.65. I am scared to take the MCATs again... Enter the research conference and hopefully get recognized for my contributions at my lab, enter a writing contest with an assignment I am working for in class for our school writing contest.

I think all medical schools are AMAZING! So, I would like to know "generally". However, I also want to know if I have chance in Cali, as I am family oriented and who doesn't want the best of both worlds?

I am willing to work harder and longer...what are your recommendations and where do you think I stand? I do wish to apply upcoming June.

Welcome, I cut it down a little.

I think you look like a good candidate.

Your GPA and MCAT are in a decent range for Cali. With the experience and letters of rec I think you stand an Average to Very good chance at Cali MD schools, Average is good, but since you did research then I think this helps your chances some as well.

On Monday meet and listen to the adviser, if they agree then great, if they do not then do not worry, some advisers have no clue anyway.

Good Luck.
