Issues specific to osteopathic medical education and practice as a DO.

Today I met a chiropractor, and we got to talking about health and different types of medicine (i.e. osteopathic, chiropractic) and after some time he offered to let me come in and shadow him for a little while. I am interested in finding out a bit more about chiropractors as a whole, so I definitely plan to go. My question is though, is this something I would want to list and talk about. For example, when I'm asked what sort of clinical experience I have (or whenever it is applicable to state the various physicians I've shadowed), should I bring this up, or just not mention it?

It's fine as long as you shadow a DO or MD too.

i wouldnt bring it up as a clinical experience you had. You shadowed the chiropractor becuase u were interested to see what it was all about. And that should be it. If u end up applying to med sch instead of chiro sch, then u obviously have weighed up the 2 options (chiro vs med sch) and decided to go to med sch. So when u mention chiro experience during interview, be prepared to answer what ur findings were during ur shadowing experience and why u picked medicine over chiro (All under the assumption ur shadowed a MD or DO also).
I wouldnt list it as part of experience but can bring it up during interview just to further strength ur claim for a spot in med sch.

I know of two chirpractors that live near me but I think it would be weird if I just went in and said, "Um, i am thinking about being a chiropractor and was wondering if i could shadow you?". Should i give them a call first or just wing it and ask them directly? Is there a better way to approach this? thanks!.....

give them a call first. let the office secretary bring it to d boss' attention and get back to you on that. DOnt just walk in. remember, its still a business place.
