Hi!
I wonder if you can give me your opinion about my case: I wanna get a new 6y Cardiothoracic-Integrated residency program! I´m a 5th year medical student (its like to be 3rd y in a US med school), I passed on USMLE step 1 (197 - 81) and on step 2 Ck score (211 - 87). I´ll do step 2 CS next year, during a 3 month (july-august-sep) US clinical experience in CT surgery and Gen Surgery AT THE HOSPITAL which is my first choice of position. I also went to Texas Heart Institute as a med student last winter where I´ve got a LOR. I don´t have many publications...
I´m thinking to apply to prelim surg position also, in case I couldnt get a CT-integrated position.
Positive factors:
- 4 months of US clinical experience in CT surgery / Gen Surgery
- LOR from US surgeons
- I´ll apply to residency just after graduation (no gaps)
- 3 months of USCE with surgeons who coordinate the program of my first choice, in the period of application.
Negative factors:
- I´m an IMG
- 81 on step 1 AND 87 on step 2 CK
- No important publication
So, HOW ARE MY CHANCES OF GETTING A CARDIOTHORACIC-INTEGRATED POSITION????? How about PRELIMINARY GENERAL SURGERY? How will be my chances of getting CT-integrated posititon if I do a prelim in gen surg?
