These cardiologist salary results are provided in conjunction
with reports for different medical and surgical specialties based
on surveys of physicians in different medical specialities, and
are publically available on the web (see the Physicians Search
website). As subspecialists, cardiologist are compensated at a
substantially higher rate than are internists, but there is still
variability in salary levels based whether the physician has training
as an intervential cardiologist or in electrphysiology.
First, locum
tenens positions will often set base pay scale on the
national average income. As an estimate of how compensation can
be adjusted by local cost-of-living differences, MomMD reports
cardiology
salaries by geographical region.
In evaluating a cardiology job offer it is important to know
the average pay for the specialty. Independent of locum tenens
positions, the national average of compensation is often used
as a target: a cardiologist who generates the average patient
income receives the average pay. Bonuses are often pegged to the
amount of income generated above the average.
The average salary for an internist (see Internal
Medicine Survey) can be used as a benchmark for comparison
with other medical specialities.

employment options, medical
